The tapes tell of the last period of his stay at the Soraberg Asylum and his discovery of what he came to call ‘The White Room.’ The White Room is an infinite space of pure white in which the residents can create anything they can think up. Over time more residents gain access to this mysterious place- Thus beginning a series of events that stretches Steve’s sanity to its limits, offers a chance at redemption, and leaves a man too broken to fix.

From the back of the book

The White Room of the Asylum showcases six unique illustrators, each with their own art style.
It’s a dark tale of solitude, friendship, betrayal, and the lengths someone will go to in order to
protect what they believe is theirs...

Officer Bardy is called to investigate the suicide of an elderly man.
All he left behind was a series of audio cassette tapes numbered from 1 to 6.
The tapes tell the story of Steve, a paranoid schizophrenic living in the
SoraBerg asylum in 1989. He is haunted by a recurring nightmare where
he is being chased by a hideous beast. One night the nightmare changes,
and he is saved by another patient of the asylum. Not a big graphic novel reader but I really enjoyed this book. The art was great (especially liked book/chapter 2) and the story was entertaining. The only thing that bothered me was when I started a new chapter/book...it took me a little bit to recognize some characters...but that's likely from switching artists every chapter/book. But I still recommend this...
“We think he belongs to you.”

After weeks of searching, Charlie finally tracked down the owners of the dog he and his partner Jeremiah called Rollins. Before saying goodbye to the animal that brought them together as a couple, they asked to hear the story of Rollins’ earlier days as a dog named Yukon Sam.

“When no one else believed we could make it, she gave us Sam to show her trust in our relationship.”

Matt and Ryan grew up with families who, while not overtly homophobic, expressed attitudes of benign neglect. When they first encountered each other as young men hanging out in a small-town bar with small groups of friends…the recognition was instant. Not only were they gay, they were both outsiders as well.

A romance blossomed, and an ugly family quarrel put Ryan on the street. With the help of Matt’s supportive sister, Pam, the pair found a small house, and she offered them an energetic white dog, soon named Yukon Sam, as a sign of her belief in their love.

Yukon Sam is a 50,000 word first time gay novel set in the world of Pet Shop Charlie and The Flawless Mr. Faraday. However, it can easily be read as a standalone and has no cliffhangers. There are steamy scenes and a happily ever after ending.

Yukon Sam An Eagle Glen Novel edition by Grant C Holland Literature Fiction eBooks

If this is the end of the Eagle's Glen series, Grant Holland can take a deep bow. However, I will tell you that even though this, and the others, are labeled as stand-alones, don't you dare. This one is directly related to the first in the series ("Pet Shop Charlie"), and even the second one ("The Flawless Mr. Farady') serves as an important bridge in completing this wonderful series.

Here we have Ryan (left on the cover) and Matt, who passed each other like ships in the night one time in high school where Ryan was considered a nerd and two-years-older Matt was a football jock. They serendipitously meet in the town's straight hook-up bar a few years later and boom! Well, more like a "poof" (not a denigrating term here)--because they have an instant attraction that takes a while to be sexually fulfilled.

The narrative is a sandwich: The bottom slice of bread is the first chapter when Charlie and Jeremiah from the first book showing up at Matt's mother's home to return their beloved dog Rollins, whose name was Yukon Sam before he disappeared from Ryan and Matt's home a year before. The top slice of bread takes place on the same day and brings everything together in a sweet Epilogue that will have the tears of joy rising.

The meat-of-the-matter is Ryan and Matt's love story. Once again author Grant Holland brings a perfect Midwestern pitch to their relationship--quiet, determined, resolve while exploring their potential and dealing with ups and downs along the way. Holland throws in a number of twists that are totally off the wall, but by now you are so in love with these young men that you can't help agreeing that it's all very logical.

And loving.

Yukon Sam An Eagle Glen Novel edition by Grant C Holland Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is a beautiful story about the love between two young men from the time they first meet in high-school through when they re-connect a few years later and begin a relationship. Although the family of one of them (Ryan) is biased and hateful toward gays, the family of the other (Matt) is warm and welcoming. Through the story (the span of about a year) they learn about love and face the challenges that come with becoming adults, moving out on their own, and finding their way as a couple in the world. The book explores the emotions of love and loss poignantly. Although there is some drama about threats from Ryan's brother, there is never any violence, and there is no graphic sex.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book"
Jeremiah and Charlie, from Grant C Holland's previous book Pet Shop Charlie (which I haven't read), have been searching for a lost dog's owners and meet Matt and Ryan. Here begins a retelling of how Matt and Ryan struggled to be together and overcome some very personal and prominent issues faced by these two small town men. Yukon Sam (or Rollins as Jeremiah and Charlie have been calling him) is Matt and Ryan's beautiful dog given to them by a family member as a sign of her love and acceptance of their relationship and has become a symbol of their strong and deep love.

This short story is a really nice one and certainly well written. A stand alone book but one that will spark your interest in Grant C Howard's other works.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reading Copy of this book.
This is sort of a prequel to Pet Shop Charlie since it explains where their dog Rollins came from. Matt was a star football player in high school in Eagle Glen. He knew he was gay but he was out yet. At school, Ryan runs into him and sparks fly but nothing happens. It is now a few years later and Matt is out with some old football friends at a bar. He sees Ryan across the room and the sparks are still there. The two quietly get together in the bar to get to know each other. Neither man is officially out of the closet but Ryan has done some dating.
Matt and Ryan taking their dating slowly but they are very attracted to each other and are the perfect match. Then Ryan's family find out he is gay and disown him. His brother is so hostile they are afraid that he might attack Ryan. To keep Ryan safe, he moves out of town to live with Matt's sister. While there he falls in love with her dog Sam. When a chance to move into a house outside of Eagle Glen comes up, Ryan returns with Sam to be reunited with Matt. When a family emergency comes up, they leave Sam behind for the day. He escapes and they are not able to find him.
This is a sweet love story that has a cute dog. There are some family issues with Ryan coming out of the closet but mostly this is a feel good story. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This was a nice story about a young couple who meet, fall in love, and start their lives together. It was low on drama, and high on sweetness. I personally thought that the time frame of everything felt too compressed. For example, Matt and Ryan rent a house that they absolutely love, but within weeks of them moving in, they are already considering moving out and on with their lives. I don't think that we necessarily needed to see more into their lives, but I would have expected that more time should have passed during the course of the story to help explain some of the reactions that both characters have to their circumstances.

I did find it odd that Ryan is first introduced as being the one who is very comfortable with his sexuality, and who has been openly gay to his friends for years, but his older brother, as well as his parents, have no clue. Neither Ryan nor Matt made much of an effort to hide the fact that they were dating, but despite complaining about living in a small town where everyone knew everyone else's business, somehow no one ever figured out that they were, in fact, dating; and no one told either of their parents.

Overall, I thought that this story was a good read about normal life, but I ended up with questions that I don't think were adequately satisfied.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
If this is the end of the Eagle's Glen series, Grant Holland can take a deep bow. However, I will tell you that even though this, and the others, are labeled as stand-alones, don't you dare. I looked forward to getting into the latest work from A. T. Weaver. I've enjoyed the previous two books, and this latest work did not disappoint. The weaving of so many different time lines, and view points was well handled. I truly came of love the characters, and their development through the story.

I'm looking forward to the next book by this author!!!
I read this book today and really enjoyed it. If you like a mystery with historical overtones, this one is for you. I have now read all four of Ms. Weaver's books self-published on . Each is very different from the other but all with great character and story development. This one was particularly intriguing with its Celtic lore and spirituality and its reincarnation mystery. I highly recommend this book and the other three available here on . Ms. Weaver's stories have a lot of meat on their bones and a lot of bang for your buck. She takes the time to really develop her characters and bring them to life in a way that can't be done with a shorter novel.
Overall, this was a pretty good read. I was more interested in the mystical aspects of it than the romantic ones, but I have to say that all were developed equally well. Sunny's dreams and visions are skillfully woven into the timeline, and I definitely enjoyed the dated diary format. While not a central focus of the book, I also appreciated the presentation of the friction between Christianity and more pagan religions; as someone with close friends following both paths, it rings true. At times, I found it a bit too explanatory, but that may be because I am fairly familiar with the area in which most of the book takes place, and while there were some minor grammatical issues, there was nothing strong enough to jolt me out of the story. As a final note, I will admit that I skimmed over the few sex scenes; I don't particularly enjoy them in any book, so this is typical behavior. I have a couple of other books by this author, and am certainly looking forward to reading them now!
Sunny Nelson has inherited a house from his grandfather and his parents insist he goes for a few days to see the house. Sunny is at a turning point in his life after coming out of a long term relationship he thinks the house could be his new start. While at the house strange things start to happen that Sunny will have to decipher.
Jeff Davis is a distant relative of Sunny and offers to help him with the house. As soon as he sees Sunny he is drawn to him and as they try to discover the secrets of the house their relationship grows.
I haven’t read anything by this author before so I was excited to discover something new. I was intrigued from the beginning the historic aspect I loved. Following a family during hard times and the love shared was touching. I was engaged with the historic characters and desperately wanted to know how it would end.
Sunny and Jeff’s relationship was sweet and developed nicely over the span of the book. The reaction of the generations to gay relationships was well handled. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and loved the choppy style swapping from one period in time to the other however some may struggle with it. I did find myself more invested in the historical characters.
Overall I found it to be a refreshing read with a great plot and a sweet romance.
Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock
